Filter Disposal Procedure

Procedure for disposal of used Filters

A] Oil Filters:

  • Carefully remove oil filter without spilling oil.
  • Turn the filter upside down in a used oil collection container, such as a drip pan. Drain as much oil as possible from the filter. For best results, drain used oil filters for a minimum of 12 hours.
  • If the oil filter is Anti Drain Back Valve (ADBV) type then turn the filter upside down in a used oil collection container such as a drip pan, puncture the anti-drain back valve or puncture through the dome end (Approx 10 mm size). Drain as much oil as possible from the filter. For best results, drain used oil filters for a minimum of 12 hours.
  • Use a funnel or carefully pour the used oil from the drip pan into a clean container appropriate for recycling the oil.
  • Properly gravity drained used oil filters are consider as non-hazardous general metal scrap and dispose it accordingly.
  • If the oil filters are not drained, the entire filter must be disposed of as hazardous waste.
  • Reuse the drained oil for further test as appropriate.

B] Fuel Filters (Other than oil):

Used fuel filters not containing oil should be handled in the same manner as oil filters, except that the drained fuel should be separated. Properly gravity drained used Fuel filters are considered as non-hazardous general metal scrap and dispose it accordingly. If the fuel filters are not drained, the entire filter must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

C] Air Filters / Air Cleaner:

Used Air filters / Air cleaners are considered as general metal scrap and dispose it accordingly.

D] Cartridge Filter:

The cartridges does not contain metal parts, so disposal is incinerable.

E] CV Product:

1] Coalescer:

Loosen the inlet hose clamp (service from above) or drain hose clamp (service from below). Unthread the cover by hand or with a rubber or cloth strap wrench. For Bolted cover's untighten thescrews & remove cover Remove the used filter and O-ring from the base. During normal use the coalescer’s filter collects engine oil, diesel particles, engine wear debris and by-products of combustion. Please dispose of used. Coalescer filters as per local regulations. Treating the used coalescer filter in the same manner as a used oil filter can usually meet local regulations.

2] Impactor:

It is a lifelong product without any serviceability required. The used impactoris only replaced in case of damage. For any used /damaged filter, Metal parts such as spring & compression limiters can be separated & then treated general metal scrap and disposed it accordingly Plastic is recyclable, (can be used as regrind material) & treated accordingly.

F] Modules Product:

1] Top Load Module:

Remove / unscrew Lid by some rotation and keep for approx 10 min. Wait till drain oil to sump Remove the cartridge from lid. · Replace cartridge and O-rings. The cartridges does not contain metal parts, so disposal is incinerable.

2] Bottom Load Module:

Carefully remove shell (housing) without spilling oil. Turn the shell (housing) upside down in a used oil collection container, such as a drip pan. Drain as much oil as possible from the filter. For best results, drain used oil filters for a minimum of 12 hours. Use a funnel or carefully pour the used oil from the drip pan into a clean container appropriate for recycling the oil. Remove the cartridge from shell (Housing). Replace cartridge and O-rings. The cartridges does not contain metalparts, so disposal is incinerable.
